New important SOLAS amendments
New Fire-fighter’s communication requirements
During the 91st session the IMO Maritime Safety Committee a new requirement for fire-fighting on board has been announced. This is an amendment of SOLAS II-2/10.4. Every fire-fighting team has to be equipped with at least 2 two-way portable radios to improve communication.
Mandatory complying dates are:
- New ships constructed (keel-laid) on or after 1 July 2014
- Existing ships (constructed before 1 July 2014) shall comply not later than the first survey after 1 July 2018
